🔧 Mechanic's Notes
- Mechanically a B8 A4 coupe: the 2009–11-era CAEB oil-consumption problem (thin rings, class-action) applies here too. Consumption-test any early car before buying (Autoblog/CarBuzz).
- Cold-start rattle = pre-revision timing chain tensioner. Do it before it does you — a jumped chain on these is a head-off job.
- FWD Cabriolets got the multitronic CVT (0AW). Judder, delayed engagement or P1890 codes mean the expensive kind of trouble; quattro Tiptronic cars are the safer buy (AudiWorld multitronic guide).
- Intake-valve carbon is routine at 80k+ on this DI engine — factor a walnut blast into any long-term ownership math.
Field patterns from a working mechanic — diagnose your own car before buying parts.
