🔧 Mechanic's Notes
- Coolant leaks from the plastic water pump/thermostat module are the FY's most common surprise — slow level drop, sweet smell, pink crust at the housing. Known EA888 Gen 3 pattern; catch it small (VAG Manchester, Motronix).
- This is a dual-clutch (DL382 S tronic), not a slushbox: Audi itself schedules fluid every 40k miles, and the fill is a temperature-controlled scan-tool procedure. 'Sealed for life' is not what your maintenance schedule says.
- Oil changed mid-run: 2018 = 5W-40 VW 502 00, 2019+ = 0W-20 VW 508 00. Topping a 508 00 engine with leftover 5W-40 is a genuine mistake — check the cap.
- Turbo wastegate-actuator faults and carbon buildup are the background Gen 3 items — boost complaints before 100k are usually the actuator, not the turbo core (STR Performance, RX Mechanic).
