🔧 Mechanic's Notes
- The 7G-DCT's low-speed manners live and die on fluid condition — MB 236.21 every 60k/5 years. A neglected one feels clunky in traffic; a serviced one feels like a different car.
- M270 shares the family timing-chain habits: tensioner bleed-down rattle on cold start and cam-adjuster wear. Investigate a persistent cold rattle before it becomes a chain job.
- P0016-family faults can be the slipped cam tone ring known on M270/M274 — proper diagnosis first, camshaft if confirmed.
- Transverse engine bay is tight — some jobs that are 1-hour on a C-Class take longer here. Price labor accordingly.
Field patterns from a working mechanic — diagnose your own car before buying parts.
