🔧 Mechanic's Notes
- Early 2008 builds can still carry the 2004–2008-era balance-shaft sprocket. Recurring P0016–P0019 cam-correlation codes = check the service history before buying parts — it's an engine-out-scale job.
- Intake manifold air flaps (P2004–P2006) wear their linkage, and broken pieces can get drawn into the engine. Handle it when the code first appears, not later.
- Camshaft adjuster magnets weep oil into their connectors and wick up the harness — MB sells sacrificial pigtails for exactly this. Check the plugs at every oil change.
- Thermostats are the single most common M272 failure. Slow warm-up or a wandering gauge around 60k is the tell — cheap fix, don't ignore it.
