🔧 Mechanic's Notes
- Same M274 habits as the C300: cold-start rattle from a bled-down chain tensioner and worn cam-adjuster lock pins. Chains trend toward ~80k wear — investigate noise early, it's cheaper that way.
- P0016-family codes can be the slipped tone ring on the camshaft — a known M274 fault that needs a camshaft, not a sensor. Get it properly diagnosed.
- Direct injection is hard on plugs; boost misfires by 30–40k are common. Fresh NGKs are the cheapest fix in this car.
- The 9G-Tronic is happy only on MB 236.17 — and 'filled for life' really means 'service by 5 years if you want it to live.'
