🔧 Mechanic's Notes
- The plastic water pump/thermostat module is the B9's signature leak — slow coolant loss, sweet smell after shutdown, crusty pink residue at the housing. Plenty fail by 60–80k; watch the level and budget for the updated unit (VAG Manchester, Motronix).
- Turbo wastegate/actuator faults are the other Gen 3 pattern — rattle or inconsistent boost gets logged before it gets dramatic (STR Performance, RX Mechanic).
- Two different oil worlds on one window sticker: standard 45 TFSI vs ultra B-cycle (and 2019+ cars) run different approvals (502 00 vs 508 00). Wrong oil is a real mistake here — read the filler cap, not the forum.
- The DL382 S tronic wants its 40k-mile fluid service, and the drain/fill needs a scan tool to run the level procedure. Skipping it is how mechatronic problems start.
